50 YEARS OF LAKESIDE 2008 marks the 50th Anniversary of Lakeside United Methodist Church. On behalf of Lakeside’s Anniversary Committee, I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who helped make our 50th Anniversary Celebration events such a success. Your support and help were so important and appreciated. Without your willingness to step in and help we would not have had such a good time. It certainly was a time to celebrate and remember the sacrifices, gifts, energy and witness of those who led the way. Approximately 60 people attended the coffee and dessert “Walk Down Memory Lane” on Saturday, April 5. Everyone certainly enjoyed talking, sharing and reminiscing about their favorite memories and events from Lakeside’s past. The two VCRs showing videos of talent shows, Christmas programs and other programs from the past, and photo albums on each table brought back many memories. The Anniversary Celebration Worship service on Sunday, April 6 was attended by over 140 people. The music and message were inspirational! The new banner is beautiful! More fellowship and reminiscing followed at the covered dish luncheon. The Florida Annual Conference will recognize Lakeside as one of the churches celebrating a significant anniversary this year and our banner will be on display May 28-31 in Lakeland. Our District Superintendent, Rev. Mike Oliver, asked us to think about how the church 50 years from now would remember us and what we have done. As part of our outreach to others, we want to fill 50 flood buckets to take to Annual Conference next month. Supplies donated or purchased for this project will be assembled and prayed over and then the buckets will be filled one Sunday afternoon in May. We are also planning to replace the pew Bibles and dedicate them on September 28, 2008—the actual date of Lakeside’s 50th Anniversary.
